Project Monitoring Week Three

I have completed all the photoshoots I have set out to this week. I completed my front cover photoshoot on Monday. I consulted with my model beforehand and brought an outfit with me as I already instructed my model to come with natural makeup and hair. The photoshoot was easy to set up as I wanted butterfly lighting which isn't complicated and then we had to adapt it slightly so it would flatter my model and not drown her out. The photoshoot was slightly late starting as my model had to get change while we were waiting but apart from that photoshoot ran quite smoothly. I tried a variety of poses and facial expressions so I would have plenty of options when it came to selecting the right image for the front cover. I also shot from the waist up and also more closeup so again I would have plenty of options for the cover. As you can see below, the image highlighted is he one I eventually picked but I also circled other possibilities

I also executed half of my photoshoot for the Anti-social Network article. I could only shoot half of it as my 'bully' was in an exam but I don't think I could have done the whole of it because I only had an hour slot so I would have to be quick and rush the photoshoot which I wouldn't want to do. The photoshoot was quick to set up as my model came in the outfit I wanted which was just a light coloured outfit and I wanted broad lighting which was again easy to set up. We had to adapt the lighting slightly again with my model so the light wouldn't drown her out. I shot my model for half of the photoshoot and she had to pose like she was scared. After I had completed shooting her, I then had to shoot the second part. I brought in a computer screen with a hole in the middle which was just large enough for my model to get her hand through as I had previously planned out. The same model could put her fist through like she was punching someone which I would later edit to punch the photos I had took.  As a homework, I have edited the photos to make sure that the fist was punching the model and edited the model from the fist going through the computer screen part of the shoot. Here below is the pictures of my model that I have selected and the others that I considered

Here are the pictures of my prop that I considered using and the one I eventually picked. I picked this one because I felt it would be the easiest o edit as it fits the angle that I wanted.

I also completed half of my Evolution of Style photoshoot. This is one of my more complex photoshoots because there were different outfits and makeup involved hence why I could only achieve half of it. My models arrived promptly and with with neutral hair and makeup so I could change it easily if I wanted to. The lighting was easy to set-up but long enough so my models could change at the same time so I didn't have to waste time which was valuable to the photoshoot. I started with my forties look  with one model which was quite simple and spent a third of the time shooting her. I then had to do my fifties look while my first model was getting changed into the sixties look so again I wouldn't waste time with one model. getting changed all the time. After I finished the fifties look, I then had to do the final part the sixties look which leave the rest to do in two weeks where I booked a contingency photoshoot as homework. Here below are the different pictures for the three decades that I managed to take.

I then did my final new DPS photoshoot which is the Death by Fashion. I brought the  t-shirt I already made where I printed my slogan on the t-shirt earlier on the day. The photoshoot lighting was easy to do as I wanted background which I had already used and knew it had a good effect and what effect it had. My model could get dressed easily as she only had to put the shirt on and then we did some test shots to make sure the lighting wasn't drowning her out. I then had to give her some bags which were quite heavy which would allow to make the pose more natural and she had brought a pair of heels earlier. I had to give my model a rest halfway through because it was getting quite painful for her so I let her have a quick look at the photos I had took and if she had any improvements.

I have started to edit my photos as I have briefly mentioned earlier. I have edited my front cover slightly, making the colours pop more and retouching my model such as editing spots and brightening the teeth. I have also edited my Evolution of Style but I need to edit them more to make sure they will all look coherent when I finish the photoshoot in two weeks. I have also edited my Death by Fashion photoshoot so it is ready when I do my DPS.

Here is the final edited version of the front cover that will be used when I produce my front cover

Here is my Death by Fashion image ready for when I create my DPS.

Project Monitoring Week Two

As I have said earlier, I have already booked my photoshoots so I achieved that part of my project monitoring for day one.  I have consulted with my models but will do more indepth consultation next week, a couple of days before each photoshoot  so they know exactly what to bring. To replace this slot , I  have caught up on planning sheets such as the call sheets in time for my photoshoots next week.  I have not yet done extra planning for my articles, because instead I have caught up on all  my planning documents which I did not finish last week. I will now do this as an extra homework over the weekend to finish all planning in time for when I do my articles later so I don't waste time planning them. I have sourced the prop for 'The anti-social network' which should be ready for next week but I will keep checking over the weekend, so in case it isn't ready I can still plan around it.  I have also tried to source costumes for ' The Evolution of Style' but the charity store I went to said that they were no longer a vintage store and I will have to check with the manager next week if I want to borrow any clothing so I will check next week to see if I can borrow clothing. I have created my contributor question plan and have completed one interview which I have already posted the feedback for. I will continue the rest of the interviews over the weekend and selecting the information I want to put in the articles when I write them later on. Over the weekend, I will finish up on one final photoshoot planning sheet and then I will upload all spare planning documents. I will plan my front cover and contents  sell lines and make a note of them when I create my front cover.

Contigency Plan

What could go wrong during production
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your back up plan?
Data loss through the malfunction of computer and/or memory stick
I am going to avoid this issue by backing up my work on the college system and my home system as well. I will also save multiple drafts of my article so in the event I do lose everything, I don’t have to start from scratch and I can easily re build. I will also try to have paper copies of my research such as my interview research so I can rely on that as well. I will also email my work so again if both my computer at college and home fails I still have a copy there.
My models fall sick or are unavailable
I will be organising a backup model just in case one of my models fall sick and I will be asking my models regularly before the shoots that they are still available and can do it. I will also leave time for rescheduling my photoshoots and not leaving it last minute so I still have time to do a photoshoot with the models I wanted.
I or my models cannot get in due to weather
I will try to make sure I organise my shoots in the college and not do any shoots outside where it may be difficult to get in for my models in a remote location. I will again leave time for rescheduling so I can do my photoshoot again when the weather is better. I will also have back up models and lighting assistants etc. so I will still be able to do my shoot.
My research becomes unavailable
I will be backing up my research through my logs where I will repeat the essential information so in the case the websites do become unavailable I have some essential figures stored. I will also gain as much information as possible so If I lose any information I still have enough to write my article. I will also gain my information from as many sources as possible so if the internet breaks down, I still have research from books, interviews etc.  available.
The equipment becomes faulty.
I will have technician with me in the photoshoot in case the equipment malfunctions so the equipment can be fixed and my photoshoot can still resume. I also will check beforehand with the technician that the equipment is fine and that the photoshoot can start and I don’t have to reschedule. I will also leave time in my schedule to re do the shoot in case the equipment becomes a major issue. I will also try if possible to have back up equipment and batteries etc. so I case equipment malfunctions it can be replaced and again the photoshoot can resume.
My interview subject becomes unavailable
I will try to make sure I accommodate my subject as much as possible in scheduling an interview so they will definitely be available. I will also try and keep up to date with them before the interview by checking that the date is ok and I don’t have to reschedule. I will also try to leave enough time in my schedule in case I have to reorganise the interview and doesn’t affect the schedule too much.
Necessary props and costume become unavailable
I will make sure I have a backup costume because I want to make sure my looks are all up to date with my audience so I will have a backup which will still tie up with the theme of my shoots. If necessary, I will also advise my models on the day of the shoot to wear up to date and fashionable outfits just in case a backup outfit becomes unavailable so the shoot can still carry on. Likewise for props, I will have back up props that are identical or similar to the props I am using so again the shoot can still carry on. I will also leave time if possible in my schedule to re shoot props by themselves if I forget them so I can edit them in later in Photshop if possible.
Photoshoots taking too long to set up that we run out of time to shoot
I will be planning my photoshoots beforehand to make sure that there are difficult props that need to be set up which will take up the majority of my time. I will also make sure that I stick to a simplistic lightning setup which can easily be set up and that I have experience of. I will also make sure that while I’m setting up equipment etc. that my models will be getting dressed so I am multi-tasking and not waiting around for them to get changed.
Running out of post production time and not having the correct software at home
I will be doing a schedule so I know exactly what to be doing and at what time. I will also be factoring extra time in case I do overrun which may be likely and any time where I may be off due to unforeseen circumstances. I will try to keep to the schedule as faithfully as I can but If I do stray from the schedule, I will come in after lessons to do any work that I have missed on to make I keep on time.
Photographs coming back out of focus after a difficult photo shoot has just been executed

I will factor in extra time in my shoots so I can check on a nearby computer that all the photos are there and in focus so the equipment is still set up and my personnel are still there so I can still execute my shoot without wasting any more time. I will also factor in time to schedule another photoshoot if it goes wrong and I don’t have enough time to check a computer if the shoot severely overruns. I will also have expert personnel who will be able to help me and give me advice on how to make sure the photos aren’t out of focus.

Project Monitoring wk1

This is the first week of my schedule. I have succesfully finished my schedule which will keep me in line up until the deadline. I have started with my planning documents and planning the logistics of my photoshoots and the articles. I will then produce my article and conduct my photoshoots and then go into post-production, editing my pictures in photoshop and creating the product in indesign.

I believe my schedule is realistic because I have made sure that each week I am focusing on a different aspect of my magazine so I won't get confused each week amd I am able to focus on each aspect. I have also fitted in contingency photoshoot time so I have a backup plan in case the photoshoot at first doesn't work. Also through my homeworks, I will be able to catch up on work that I may not have finished in lesson. The only problem with my schedule is it may clash with other coursework deadlines of my other subjects so I will have to check with my schedule that I am not overloading myself with lots of work.

The big challenges of my schedule will be producing my magazine particularly the photoshoots. I will pre plan my photoshoots in merticulous detail so I know exactly what I am going to do which will stop me panicking when the photoshoot comes around and not produce a good photoshoot because I am clueless. Also indesign work may be a challenge because it is a programme that I do not have much experience with so in my homeworks, before producing my final product, I will do mini experiments in indesign so I have more experience when I do my final product.

My homeworks will be finishing up on any planning documents over the weekend and upload them to the blog so they are reading for when I do production. I have also completed something early on my schedule which was booking my photoshoots. This was originally scheduled for next week but I decided that it may be better to do it earlier because I was worried if I left it too late, I would not be able to get the slots I want and book contigency photoshoot time. So because I have already completed this, the slot will be used for either catch up time or doing indesign and photoshoot experiments.

7th Jan
1 This week I will be creating my schedule which will go right up to my deadline. It will be realistic and will have to not provide a strain on my other subjects particularly around exams and other deadlines. I will be fitting in planning, actually creating my articles and conducting my photoshoots and post production. I will also be doing three counts of homework which will consist of activities that I cannot do in college such as interviews and finishing up on activities which I was not able to finish in lesson.

2 I will be continuing to create my schedule, finishing up on the final weeks. I will also be asking my other subject teachers what commitments will be coming up during the next six weeks so I can factor them into my schedule and priorities my time in case I have other coursework deadline or I have mock exams.

3 I will be making sure all my planning documents are done and are detailed enough for me to conduct my shoots effectively. I will be finishing up on my photoshoot plans and also creating my contributor question plan so I know what questions I will be asking my interviewees and do not waste time thinking of questions.

4 Project Monitoring & uploading planning documents onto moodle.

Homework 1: I will be finishing up on my planning documents such as the photoshoot plans and the call sheets in preparation for my photoshoots so I can let my models know in advance where to go and what to bring.

Homework 2: I will be starting to think of photoshoot ideas and thinking of how to conduct my photoshoots which is practical and won’t waste any valuable time of my photoshoots.

Homework 3:  I will be using this homework as any extra catch up work that I need to do as I want to be focusing on my other subjects as well as they have a closer deadline.

Exams/other subject deadlines: My Russian History coursework is in for next Monday so I will be focusing on that and making changes to my coursework as that will be my final draft.

14th Jan
1 In this lesson I will go and book my photoshoots for my articles. I will have to make sure that I bring my call sheets so Chris Mariner will know what my lighting setup will be. Straight afterwards, I will consult with my models, detailing what the date and the time will be. They will also have to know what costume they need to wear and make sure that they are free then.

2 In this lesson I will be doing additional research for my articles making sure I have all the information that I need. I will also be finding additional statistics, preferably that are as up to date as possible. I will also try and find up to date case studies for my articles as I want to make my articles as up to date as possible.

3 This lesson I will be focusing on what props and costumes I will need for the shoot. I will make a note of all the props I need on a document and research how much they are as well in case I need to buy them. I will ask my teacher where I might be able to get my props and preferably where I can get them free. I will also plan my costumes and then consult my models so they are happy with my costume choices.

4 Project Monitoring & catch up
Homework 1: I will conduct both of my interviews for the ‘Evolution of Style’ article. I will be interviewing my grandmother and my mother and using my contributor question plan to ask them the questions. I will be noting down their responses and then plan a way to fit them into the article.

Homework 2: In this homework I will plan my articles, referencing back to my article plan sheets. I will make a note of what order the article will be written, and plan for each paragraph what will be in. This will have to be ready in time for when I do my articles.

Homework 3: I will be planning my front cover and contents page. I will make a detailed note of the sell lines I am going to do and look at my flat plans so I know how to structure them and how long they need to be. I will also plan the content for my contents page and again look at my flat plan to see the structure of the page.

Exams/other subject deadlines:

3
21stJan
1 This will be the photoshoot for my article ‘The anti-social network’. I will contact my models over the weekend before to make that they are still available. I will meet them at the mezzanine where my photoshoot will be and make sure that they are ready for the shoot so they are already dressed in costume etc. I will conduct my photoshoot as quickly as possible as I do not want to waste time. I will also book a computer at the same time so I can check that the photos are all there so in case they aren’t I still have the technical assistant with me.

2 I will be starting writing my article for the ‘Evolution of style’ so I can continue it over the weekend. I will be looking at my plans which I have done before so I can write them and this should make it quicker because it is already pre-planned. This will be my first draft of my article so I need to make sure it’s over by the weekend so I will be able to do a second draft.

3 In this lesson, I will be selecting the images that I want to use from my photoshoots and will be editing them so they are ready for when I put them in indesign. I will be sizing them down. I will also download the fonts and patterns that I need so they are again available for my production in indesign. I will check that they are working in indesign so in case they don’t; I have time to fix it.

4 Project Monitoring and catch-up

Homework 1: I will be doing the photoshoot for ‘Death by Fashion’. I will again consult with my models so they know exactly where to be and I can meet with them. I will again make sure they know the costume and make sure they know the risks because the article is about dangerous style. I will make sure the setting up of the photoshoot is correct and that my models know what to do. I will again book a computer at the same time so I can check that the images are all there.

Homework2: I will do my photoshoot for the article ‘Evolution of Style’. This photoshoot will take longer as it is more advanced and has more sections to it. I will have to make sure that I have all the costumes and props that I need and that my models know what they need to do for the shoots. I will again book a computer so I can check that the photos are all there so that I shouldn’t need to book another photoshoot.

Homework 3: This will be the photoshoot for my front cover and contents page. This one should be relatively simple compared to my DPS shoots as they will be in the style of a typical woman’s lifestyle magazine. Again, I will need to make sure that my models know where to go and what poses they need to do. I will need to book a computer like before so I can check that the photos are ok.

Exams/other subject deadlines:

4
28th  Jan
1 I will give the first draft of my article for the ‘Evolution of style’, that I did in the week before to a peer so they can check it and say what corrections they believe need to be done. While they are doing that, I will write the article for ‘Death by Fashion’. I will look at the plans that I did beforehand which will make my article writing easier and quicker. I will continue it for homework in case it is not finished.

2 I will be doing the second draft for my article ‘The Anti-Social Network’. I already have feedback for what to change because I did it for my mock up and I still have a record of what to change and my article. I will also make changes to the article’ Evolution of style’, because my peer reviewer should be ready to give me feedback and I can make my corrections. I will also give the ‘Death by Fashion’ article to a peer reviewer so it is ready for next lesson to make a second draft.

3 In this lesson, I will make the changes to the ‘Death by Fashion’ article which should be ready for my second draft. I will use the remainder of this lesson to use as any catch up time.

4 Project Monitoring and catch up

Homework 1: As homework, I will start on indesign. I will look at other magazines in my genre to see what column and margins measurements I will need and begin to set them out on indesign. I will do this for all three DPS.

Homework 2: I will continue on indesign by putting in text boxes so I know what my layout will look like. This will act as guide for when I put in my information and images so I know where they go. I will look at other layouts of the genre and my flat plans which shows me what my layout will look like.

Homework 3: This will act as contingency photoshoot time in case my photoshoots have gone wrong in the week earlier so I can re-execute them if needed.

Exams/other subject deadlines:

5
4th Feb
1 In this lesson I will start creating my front cover. I will edit my front cover picture if needed such as retouching and making colour changes. I will put in my masthead which I created in my treatment and choose the colour theme for my cover by looking at other magazines in the genre and the colours of my images. I will also put in my headlines and sell lines which I have created earlier and use them in the colour theme. I will create multiple copies as I move on so in case one file corrupts, I don’t have to start again.

2 I will use this lesson for finishing up my front cover, inputting in conventional features such as the barcodes and the date of the magazine. I will finish up on any sell lines and adding effects such as brushes and patterns which are in my flat plans.

3 I will not be here for this lesson as I am attending an university open day

4 Project Monitoring and catch up

Homework 1: I will use this for creating my contents page which I have already outlined in my flat plans. I will input one of the images from my DPS photoshoots which tie in with my DPS. I will also input my patterns and brushes which I have outlined again in my flat plans. I will again save multiple copies as I move on so I do not have to start again if a file corrupts.

Homework 2: I will use this homework for finishing up on my contents page, putting in the page titles that I made a list of early. I will make sure that the contents page is consistent with the front cover.

Homework 3: I will use this to make changes to my DPS for ‘The Anti Social Network. I have already created the DPS for this article as I did this for my mock up. I will make the changes that my focus groups suggested such as changing the breakout box. I will also put in my live imagery which I shot earlier.

Exams/other subject deadlines:

6
11th Feb

1 I will create the DPS for the article ‘The Evolution of Style’. I have already planned out what the page will look like in my flat plans. I will upload the brushes and patterns that I have created in Photoshop and upload them into indesign and put them in the appropriate places which I have already planned out. I will start typing in my headline and put in my images which I already edited in Photoshop.

2 I will put in my article in the DPS and making sure that each section is the appropriate length and fits in the DPS. I will also create my breakout box and adding the text into my breakout box. This should be the final version of my DPS.

3 I will start creating my final DPS which is ‘Death by Fashion’. I will again put in my headline and import my brushes and patterns which I already edited in Photoshop. I have already planned what the DPS will look like in my flat plans and I will look at my treatment as well. I will upload my live imagery as well that I have already shot into the DPS.

4 Project Monitoring and catch up

Homework 1: I will use this to upload my article for my final DPS. I will make sure that each section fits in the DPS and make any changes if I need to. I will also put in my headers which I have already created.

Homework 2: I will use this to finish up any of my DPS which are still needed to finish up in case I have overrun. After I have finished all my DPS, I will make sure that all my pages are consistent, so they look like they belong in the same magazine.

Homework 3:  I will use this to create the legal assessment of my product.  I will look at my constraints work which I have already done and make sure my final product has kept in line with this.
