Article Planning Sheet- The Anti Social Network

Article Planning Sheet- The Anti Social Network
Plan the language use of the primary code of your article in the box below.

Article target audience:

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
The articles purpose will be to inform my readers as I am writing an article about an issue which may affect my audience and I want to show them that this issue is on the rise and they need to be aware of it.  However I also want to entertain my reader because if I just throw lots of information at them, they won’t take it in so I will be adding references to celebrities and adding light-hearted humour but not taking away hugely from the issue. The article type will be primarily an expose as because I want to shock my readers but will also be a human interest article because it is containing information which will be of interest to my audience.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
The narrative voice will be in 3rd person as I will be writing to inform which this style is usually used to however I will be using 2nd person as well to entertain my reader and create a more personal tone because I want them to be aware of the issue and how much it does concern them.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
The register will be quite informal as I am appealing to a younger audience and have to make the issues relevant to them so by using an informal register they will be able to read and relate to the article. I want to appeal to as many people as possible so will only use some well-known colloquial terms. I will also be using references to pop culture to make my article more readable but I won’t be using any specific topic language because that it make the article more formal and too informative.  I will not be using taboo words as it doesn’t really appeal to my audience and might offend the secondary audience which I have to take in mind. It is also inappropriate to my topic.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
I will be using emotional language because it is an emotional story and want my audience to feel sad that this type of bullying is going on. I will also be using a semantic field of technology and the internet because it is relevant to my topic. My sentencing will be quite short as I want it to read quite fast and not drag them down with a lot of information which will make them switch off. I will also be including references to celebrities as my audience pay a lot of attention to celebrities and again this will make my article more relatable to show that celebrities suffer as well and will also entertain.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone will be emotional as I want to show the realism of the subject and also shock my readers with some aspects of my interview so they feel inclined to help and not bully people online. The tone will also be entertaining and humourous as I want to make the reader laugh as well in some parts so they will continue to read on in the article and I will do this through anecdotes that I will collect through my interviews.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
The structure will be divided into three sections with the last section focusing on how to get help. By sectioning it, it will also make it more readable for my audience so it doesn’t look like one big block of text. I will be using the inverted pyramid of interest structure where I will go through the most important information first just in case they don’t read on in the article.  My article will be followed by a breakout box which will give five tips on how to stop cyber bullying and what to do if you become a victim of cyber bullying. I will also have a kicker at the beginning of my article to tell my reader what the article is about and give them an accessible way into the article.
